Betul Lighthouse

Image
A view point of heaven!  Betul lighthouse which gives you a view of heaven is located in betul which is a coastal town at the conflux of River Sal and the Arabian sea in south Goa. Located at the top of a hill overlooking the plains of Salcette. One can see the meandering path of the Sal river till it meets the sea. On a clear day, you can also see the spectacular mountains to the East. The nearest city to the lighthouse is Margao which is at a distance of 20 km and from Panaji to the lighthouse the distance is around 50km. The first time I visited this place I had no idea of the view to looks so spectacular, the only exposure I had was when my neighbour showed me pics of their visit to this beautiful lighthouse. I was so amazed that on the same day I called up my friends and made a plan to visit this place. The next week me and my friends grouped together and went to the lighthouse. It ...

Betul Beach (Fort side)

Image
Betul beach is in South Goa, 20.7 kilometers from Margao by the MDR43. It takes about 45 minutes by road from the city. Betul is at the southernmost tip of the 27 kilometers long continuous shoreline that extends from Vasco da Gama to the Sal River. The stretch of sand comes to an end at the confluence of the Sal River and the Arabian Sea at Betul. Immediately north of Betul is Mobor, followed by the popular Cavelossim beach. The stunning Betul fort is on the opposite bank of the river, offering panoramic views of the sea, the coastline, river, and the countryside. This is a very serene and secluded beach, even during the November to January peak tourist season. It is a sandy beach with a few rocky outcrops. There are plenty of palm and casurina trees. You will also find many red crabs here. The calm Sal River flows quietly to meet the sea. A small red hill rises on the opposite side with the Betul lighthouse on top. The Betul fort is on the southern bank. You will only find a few...

Butterfly Beach

Image
Butterfly Beach is laden with beautiful white sand and clear waters. You will find many rocks here. Probably amongst the most picturesque beaches in the world, this beach offers dolphin play and a beautiful sunset. Due to the dense forests, you can access the beach by mud road or  can only get there by a  trek through the forest or from by a boat ride from Palolem beach. There are no restaurants or any other tourist facilities on this beach.  As my personal experience i had gone to butterfly beach on two wheeler vehicle with couple of my friends, we had travelled from the road which goes to cancona and the rosd was very narrow and small as we had two wheeler it made it more easier to travel , from the main ghat road there was one steep right turn which goes to leopard valley ie which straight goes to butterfly beach , we took that road and travelled for almost 15-20 mins the road was completely made of mud and small rocks which is suitable for off-roading vehicles su...

Pebble Beach

Image
Pebble Beach one of the most stunning hidden beaches in South Goa located inside the famous Cabo de Rama fort at Canacona which is an hour about from Margoa. This place is a serene beauty having a unique and perfect panoramic view from the top of the hill with micro to massive sized pebbles and cuts rocks.   In other words, an extensive view that will literarily blow your mind off because of its own charm. The uneven stone stairs will take you to the most secluded beach inside the fort. The trip to this location has a very steep way down and uneven stony stairs to the beach thereby making it risky at times. Therefore, this place is not recommended for kids and elderly family members. Pebble beach have their own unique charm because it is covered by rocks and rocky pebbles and not with sands like any other normal beaches. It’s a short trek consisting of 80-90 stairs and takes 10 minutes. The beach is covered by pebbles of different shapes and sizes, making this rocky beac...

Fatorda Hill (Colina De Cristo), Fatorda

Image
A quiet and discreet place ironically located in the noisy, bustling city of Fatorda, the Fatorda Hill gives you a view so grand, it would make you think you were looking down from the heavens themselves. The walk from the foot of the hill to the upper portion of the hill is steep but still rather manageable due to the slope being covered with tar. However, the climb to the absolute top of the hill will require to stretch your legs a bit and really test your footwork and balancing skills. Once you reach the top of the hill and you take a few moments to catch your breath, you realize that all the effort and stamina required to make that climb was worth it. A few buildings like the Collectorate of South Goa and District Hospital exist in proximity but beyond that it’s greenery as far as the eyes can see and beyond that, the Arabian Sea. The first time I visited this hill, I was not completely aware of what the view would look like. My only exposure to it was through one ...
